Drift 051—Sapling and Wall

There is a young fruit tree growing against the north retaining wall.

It should not be there.

The roots will find the stone eventually, and stone does not negotiate.

Yet this summer it has begun to bear fruit.

I stood there longer than I expected, tools in hand, debating which deserved to stay.

The wall has stood for generations. The tree has only just begun.

I left them both where they were.

Did something stay with you?
