Drift 066 — The Things Left Undone

The leaves have collected along the southern wall.

I noticed them Monday and intended to clear them before the next rain. By Wednesday, the wind had carried more into the corner beside the greenhouse.

They are still there.

The watering can has been sitting on the garden wall since last weekend. One of the shutters on the western side needs its lower hinge tightened. The path beyond the kitchen has begun to disappear beneath fallen leaves.

None of it is serious.

I have spent most of this week attending to matters that could not be postponed. By the time I returned to the Castle each evening, there was little daylight left and less inclination to use it.

Yesterday, I walked the grounds before supper.

I picked up the watering can and carried it inside. I looked at the shutter but had not brought my tools.

The leaves could wait another day.

There was a time when I would have stayed outside until everything was finished, working by the light from the greenhouse if necessary.

Last night, I went in while I could still see the path.

This morning, the leaves are wet.

The shutter is still loose.

There is more work waiting than there was yesterday.

Did something stay with you?
