What is memory safe-keeping, and why do I care?
Memory doesn’t just exist—it must be maintained. It must be carried forward, tended like a flame.
Not through grand gestures, but through small, steady rituals: the way we fold a blanket, prepare a meal, or thought-whisper a name when no one else is listening.
We assume remembering is passive—but real memory is active. It asks for our mind’s to create safe presence. It requires us to make space in our busy lives to hold the moments that shaped us.
Safe-keeping requires a discernment between which memories we need—and which ones we don’t. And memory safe-keeping often means, we maintain memories, even if they hurt us—a painful reminder to guide our future steps.
Because memory, left untouched, begins to fade. Opening us to repeating an unpleasant past, as much as alerting a helpful satisfaction.
But when we move with it—speak it, and live it—it stays.
And so does everything it ever meant.
