It’s been a long day of small, unglamorous things.
A shutter that needed rehanging before the wind picked up again. Water hauled up two flights because the pump on the east side has been temperamental since spring. Wood stacked, because dark comes early here and it does not wait for me to finish.
None of it is difficult, exactly. It is only endless.
✧
Everyone carries something unseen.
I think about that more up here than I probably would elsewhere, with no one else’s schedule to measure my own against.
Some burdens arrive violently—loud, sudden, impossible to outrun. Others settle in like weather. Day after day. Until the weight becomes the only familiar thing left.
No one is weightless.
And tonight, I feel heavy.
I do not always know what it costs to stand upright in a room. Words swallowed whole. Hours spent pacing stone floors instead of sleeping.
The ache that has no name because naming it would make it real.
✧
This is where people divide, I think.
Some break under the weight and scatter it outward—turning pain into cruelty, wounds into weapons, bitterness into a kind of inheritance passed to everyone near them.
Others carry it. They learn to hold what was never meant for them. They absorb the pressure instead of exporting it. Transforming what would have harmed others into a steadiness that looks like calm but can cost everything.
This is not softness. It is not virtue.
It is strength that bleeds slowly, is wiped away, and never displayed.
✧
The shutter is fixed now. The wood is stacked. The water made it up both flights.
This journal, full.
Small things, mostly finished, on a day that felt heavier than the list would suggest.
I do not always have someone to say that to. Tonight, I am saying it here.

This letter is now part of the Conservatory — those who find one often need another.

Yes! So true and so well said.
I love reading your stories. Maybe they are not just stories but real living experiences and outward expressions of internal thoughts and feelings. Either way I’m right there with you and these writings connect us across space and time. Maybe someday we can close that distance. Until then remember I’m right there just a thought away.
